The objective of this report was to develop a set of guideline for the appropriate surface treatment selection; application and maintenance to provide a cost-effective means of reducing the safety and health hazard associated with dust on strip coal mine haul roads. This would be used to identify suitable spray-on or mix-in surface treatments to reduce the generation of dust, within the constraints of cost effectiveness and maintainability, through consideration of wearing course material type, traffic volumes and current road maintenance activities.
