The soils of the Nylsvley Nature Reserve are classified according to the binomial system and mapped on a scale of 1:5 000. 17 soil forms and 34 soil series are described. The main soil forms within the Savanna Ecosystem Project study area include Clovelly, Fernwood, Mispah and Hutton forms. On the soils map the geographical distribution of individual soil series is indicated and in the descriptive legend the most important features are summarized. The appendix to this report contains a morphological description as well as analytical data such as particle size distribution, exchangeable cations, cation exchange capacity and available nutrients of the individual diagnostic horizons of the series identified.
