Following a visit to the South African mining industry and the Chambers Research Organization, the author has presented a number of observations on various aspects of mining and mining research in the Republic. These observations relate generally to explosives, drilling, rock reinforcements, raise, tunnel and shaft boring, shaft sinking, rock cutting and longwall mining.
