Amid the rapid proliferation of first mobile devices and lately, mobile broadband, South Africa is uniquely situated to harness the promises that Mhealth have been reported to hold. Over the past years, Mhealth implementations have spread to incorporate a wide range of Mhealth applications to service the Health System information needs and end user needs. This paper aims to describe the current state of mHealth applications and implementation in South Africa by a review of reported MHealth implementations and the stakeholders that collaborate in the space.
