DVB-NGH (Digital Video Broadcasting-Next Generation Handheld) is the next generation technology for mobile TV broadcasting. It integrates both satellite and terrestrial techniques, which is vital in supporting rich media content for mobile handheld devices. DVB-NGH as a new standard brings features that results to it performing superior than the earlier DVB-handheld (DVB-H) standard. However, DVB-NGH inherits some of the features included in DVB-H instead of completely new features. Thus, DVB-H and DVB-NGH system have different and common features. Hence, the need for a careful analysis of similarities and differences between the two standards. This paper gives an abstract characterization of both DVB-H and DVB-NGH standards and their associated technical comparison.
