dc.description.abstract The introduction of landfill permits by Section 20 of the Environment Conservation Act, 1989, resulted in the development of the Minimum Requirements series of documents to guide waste disposal to landfill. The promulgation of the National Environmental Management: Waste Act, 2008 (Act 59 of 2008) and the recent regulations and standards, has changed the way in which landfills will be regulated in future. This paper critically evaluates the impacts of the Waste Act and regulations on landfilling in South Africa. en_US
