From 2010-2012 the Human Language Technology (HLT) research group of the CSIR Meraka Institute received funding from the Department of Arts and Culture (DAC) for a project entitled Lwazi II: Increasing the impact of speech technologies in South Africa. This is the final research report on this project. The Lwazi II project followed on from Lwazi I and involved further research and development work on speech technologies for resource-scarce languages, mainly the official languages of South Africa. The project was divided into two subprojects – Services and Technologies – and the report has been structured accordingly. |
