The Swartkops Estuary is an exceptionally valuable environment feature for the Port Elizabeth metropolitan area. Just as Cape Town has Table mountain, so Port Elizabeth has the Swartkops Estuary as a natural area. Despite the intensive urban and industrial development that now surrounds it; the estuary is in remarkably good condition.
