The optical properties namely the absorption and reduced scattering coefficients of porcine skin were determined using an integrating sphere setup and a multiple polynomial regression method. The absorption coefficient was found to be 0.44±0.06 cm-1 and the reduced scattering coefficent 6.67±0.6 cm-1. Using these properties the propagation of light through the same sample for literature and the measured values was modelled using ASAP software. The results obtained demonstrate the need to measure the optical properties of tissue in situ when investigating important parameters for less invasive therapeutic and diagnostic modalities utilising light
