The Marine Pollution Research Programme is one of the series of SANCOR Programmes. Up to 1985 research into these aspects of oil pollution covered by the Prevention and combating of Pollution of the Sea by Oil Act (no. 6 of 1981) has been coordinated by the SANCOR steering committee for Oil Pollution Research, with the financial support of the Department of Transport, and did not form part of the MPP (South African National Scientific Programmes report, no 99, Brown 1985).
