Transport and tramming accidents on coal mines in South Africa are a major component in the overall pattern of colliery accidents. Furthermore, there is now a widespread acceptance that human error is a common cause of failure in accident patterns. The objective of this report was to create a better understanding of the design, organisational, management and human factors contributing to transport and tramming accidents, together with suggestions for solutions to both specific and generic potential accident causes.
